Screening and Evaluation for Addiction: Are you worried that you or a loved one suffers from addiction, but don’t know for sure? Did your doctor ask you to get an addiction evaluation?
We will provide a full diagnostic evaluation and, if appropriate, offer a treatment plan that is evidence-based and collaborative. If you wish, we will discuss our results with your doctor.
Treatment of Addiction: Do you or a loved one suffer from addiction? We provide a full diagnostic evaluation and a treatment plan that is evidence-based and collaborative.
There are some addictions that have very effective medications to help treat them. But, because addiction is a complex brain disease, a medication is generally not the only treatment. It may take multiple different therapies to come up with an effective treatment plan for you.
Treatment of Psychiatric and Medical Complications of Addiction: Often there are psychiatric or medical conditions that occur with addiction. Treating everything at the same time is ideal. We assist in screening and/or management of the common psychiatric conditions related to addiction, including anxiety, depression, panic disorder, post traumatic stress and bipolar disorder. We will assist in screening and/or management of the common medical conditions related to addiction, including HIV, hepatitis, liver dysfunction, pregnancy, breathing problems and cardiovascular problems.
Detoxification: Withdrawing from some substances can be extremely painful, or even dangerous, if not managed properly. Even at normally prescribed doses, opioid pain pills and benzodiazepines can cause a withdrawal syndrome if discontinued abruptly. Safe withdrawal from addictive use of opioid pain pills, heroin, alcohol and benzodiazepines requires medical supervision. Certain patients need hospitalization and close monitoring to detoxify from these substances, but there are situations where outpatient detoxification is safe and effective. We assist in outpatient detoxification when appropriate.
Chronic Pain Consultation: Do you or a loved one suffer from chronic pain but have difficulty controlling your pain medications?
This is very common and does not necessarily mean that you are addicted to your pain pills. We offer a full diagnostic evaluation and come up with a collaborative care plan that is evidence-based. We will share the results with your doctor if you wish.
For Physicians: Are you unsure if your patient is taking their pain medications appropriately and/or are worried they are addicted?
We evaluate chronic pain patients for opioid addiction and manage them if they meet criteria. Some people don’t meet criteria for addiction, but have difficulty controlling their medications. If that is the case, we make specific recommendations about how to best treat that patient.
Education: Many find it difficult to navigate the complicated field of pain and addiction. We offer free educational sessions for medical and behavioral health professionals or community groups. If your community group, school, church, professional group or practice is interested, please contact us to set up a session.
